In february 1997, a birthday party was organised in Doohan for Mary Ann's 80th birthday. I decided to say a few words
at the party about her life. My daughter , Kathryn , helped me. We got most of the information from my mother but also a little
from some of her relations. Although we did not uncover any great scandals, it was still quite interesting and attracted a
good deal of interest. She also liked it and said whether it was good or bad, it was the truth". Because of that, I
got the idea of doing her life story and some time afterwards I discussed it with her and sghe had no objections. The years
passed by and from our regular I would sometimes take notes.
Over the years she dictated most of the book to me, although I do not know whether it is a biography or an autobiography..
But for the most part, it is her story, in her words and I have just committed these words to paper. I am sorry that it was
not completed before her death and I know she would have enjoyed the book launch. I think ordinary humble people can lead
quite interesting and positive lives. They can be happy and fulfilled for most of the time but I think a share of sadness,
suffering and pain also comes to most people. For the most part she had a good life and was a good woman but she had her faults
and failings, though she did not like to be reminded of these.
I have enjoyed me putting this book together. It has brought me into contact with my old friends, neighbours and relations.
I had so much enjoyment and so many laughs.
If you wish to purchase this book you can contact me. It costs $20 plus $5 for p&p.
